BARTENDERS are being taught how to add flair to their drink mixing to satisfy the more sophisticated travellers who are choosing Barbados as a tourist destination.
Scott Young and Dave Simpson, of Flair Extreme Bartending, of Vancouver, Canada, began a three-day seminar for bartenders at the DC Conference Centre, Manor Lodge, Green Hill, St Michael, yesterday.
The event, sponsored by the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association, attracted participants from leading hotels and restaurants.
Stressing there was more to being a bartender than just pouring a drink in a glass, Young said: "There are a lot of ways to become better. Mainly it is creating a fantastic guest experience.
"It is not enough to prepare a drink for a guest in this global day of competition.
"Barbados is a beautiful place, but it is just one choice for the international traveller."
Young, who has been teaching bartenders around the world over the past 12 years, added: "We are teaching fantastic customer service, product knowledge and general mixology. We also get into working flair bartending." (NC) |
