I work in a restaurant with anywhere from 3-6 servers and I get a large order with all clear liquors and clear mixers -- vodka & tonic, gin & tonic, vodka & 7up, gin & 7 up, etc. All look the same, all get the same garnish -- lime. Next server is up, similar order. The drinks can get mixed up.
I know the process is called "monitoring". How do you do it? My guess is to pour in the same order as the order was given -- theoretically good, but they can still get mixed up.
Any ideas? I just don't get the "take another straw and taste it". Sorry...that's gross.

in a busy night i get a lot of red drinks i use diffrent straws to help me out 2 long in a hawian punch 1 in a sloe gin and ornge 2 long and a short in a alabamer slammer so on it also helps cause when you see that glass again you might be able to remember what was in it. i know not the resturants way but it works for me.
hope this helps _________________ Just cause customers don't expect it doesn't mean they don't deserve it.
either use the straw method as mentioned, or use different garnishes, or with a combo of straws, or just try to remember which one is which. But it can definitely get screwed up when it's very busy. _________________ Fav. cocktail: Alabama Slammer

All of the above are good methods. I find you just have to stick to one way a be consistant so you don't forget.
I use the staws and garnishes as markers. I don't have different colours of straws show I use multiples.
I know some bartenders who put drinks in aphabetical order. You use the first letter of liquor as the guide. v-vodka g-gin and so on. When you get to rum and rye put rum first then rye because you us the second letter
