I am thinking about going to bartending school and I see that you can go to school or you can through it online and and home. Which is the best way and if I were to do it at home compared to at a school would that be looked at differently on my resume?
To be honest, it's a pretty even split between a bartending school certificate being recognized as valid by the people responsible for hiring bartenders. An online bartending school will be even less recognized. Bartending is a hands-on profession, and even though there are some aspects that can be learned via books or online content (such as memorizing recipes, and basic liquor information) there's much that can only be learned hands-on.

Try going to a bar that gets busy, and ask yourself if you could do what the bartender is doing all night simply by taking an online course. Then try asking yourself if you would want a surgeon who only learned surgical procedures using an online course with no hands on training.
Bartending school will give you some hands on experience, but an online course will not. Virtual reality is not your friend when it comes to the bartending profession.
Go to various bars in your area and ask the bartenders how they got their jobs (whether they went to school or trained only on the job), and if you get to meet the owners/managers, ask them what qualifications they look for in applicants for bar positions.
